I have some eyeshadow that is ';hard'; and ';unspreadable';-- it is difficult to get any on a brush?

what can I do to make it easier to get enough on a brush?I have some eyeshadow that is ';hard'; and ';unspreadable';-- it is difficult to get any on a brush?
scratch it with something like a toothpick so the top part turns into a powder. then you can get the powder on the brush =]
