So I'm a beginner in make up. When ever I try to put on eyeshadow it doesn't show as much as I want it too. Like it's just all chalky and powder.
I do put on urban decay primer potion before using the eyeshadow. So is their any product I can use to make the colors better or would I just use water?

If you're using a cheap-y brand of eye shadow, that will probably happen. Buy higher-quality eye shadow by big-name brands-- if you don't have the money for brands from Sephora or MAC (who does anymore?) at least buy CoverGirl, Rimmel, or Maybelline.
If that's not your problem, apply it more heavily, or just buy darker shades.
If you're looking for shades that reaally pop, try HIP (High Intensity Pigments) by Loreal Paris. They're definitely stunning.

You could also invest in some very good brushes. Some sweep on a sheerer wash of color and others deposit more intense color. I have Smashbox brushes and I love them!
Other than that I agree that you may need to buy some more quality eye shadows if not doing so already.
use the primer and put a white base on top. use like a big white pencil eyeliner or the mac paint pots. then put the color u want and the white should make it stand out more. or u can ads water to the brush and it intensifies the color as well. =]
what i do is put on eyeliner and then eyeshadow. but i don't think that the urban decay primer works very well, because I think it just dulls the eyeshadow.
Well maybe you should use urban decay eyeshadows with the primer potion!
u could try using water it may help but i would suggest avon products they r the best so far.

What are some good eyeshadow tips?
I am almost 12 and I am doing my makeup and I want to do my eyeshadow good. I feel like I am not doing it well. How sould I do it for my age....Plzz give me instructions..or..links..videos anything. ThanksWhat are some good eyeshadow tips?
Because you are twelve, you don't want to overdo your makeup. Don't wear eyeliner to school (especially not black, especially as a beginner). Mascara is okay if you make sure that it does not smear. For eyeshadow at school stick to more subtle, light, sparkly shades. You want an eyeshadow that contrasts with your eyes so that they stand out (for example, green eyes or blue eyes would use eyeshadows with a reddish tint, and brown is in the center of the color wheel so most colors look good). Light pinks, champagnes, creams, lavendars, light golds, and light browns are good for school. A good yet cheap eyeshadow is maybelline whipeed mousse eyeshadow in lilac dream. It is deleriously shimmery but subtle. Other good eyeshadows that are cheap and easily accessible are maybelline and covergirl. At night you can apply a little bit of eyeliner (I suggest staying away from black) in dark browns, navy, or purple. Brighter eyeshadows are more appropriate but you still want to stay away from dark. Bright blues, purples, or magentas pop out and are in style for spring 2008. try blending up instead of across (across looks like eyeliner) and try starting off with light browns and maybe some greens ... if you are going in a pageant or a dance or something like that dip the sqeegie into some water and squeeze it till it is damp then use it to apply the eyeshawdow!! Maybe you could go to a Clinique counter and have a great experience learning with someone who can give you personalized 1 on 1 help. They will expect you to buy something, and I always recomend at least eyeshadow and mascara because those can be the trickiest to master. Also, since Clinique's products are so gentle, they will be safe on your young skin. Either way, at 12 you don't need a foundation or skin powder, just some color and maybe a good facial cleanser and moisturizer (with SPF!!). If you don't want to go to a department store counter, buy products from Neutragena or Almay because they are also gentle (for the most part) and have flattering, natural colors. Good luck, have fun, and don't forgot SPF!!!

My biggest tip for you is to buy yourself a big enough powder brush to do your eyeshadow. It is much easier and the shadow goes on really nice. The sponge tip applicators that come in the package are terrible, don't use them! I learned to do makeup by going into the department store and stopping at the clinique counter. Tell them you've never done your makeup before and you'd like to learn. They'll give you a whole makeover, and you can ask all the questions you want! Then you can take those tips back and find cheaper makeup at a drug store. The best products to buy from the department store counter are eyeshadows, blush and lipsticks because they do have more pigment than what you'll find in cheaper products. So if you decide you want to buy something, those are your two best bets.
Make sure that you pay attention to the tools they use to apply your makeup. That is the only way you can replicate the application at home.
it is not rocket science- just take the little applicator and rub it on your eyelid. make sure that you do not use a very bright or bold color like blues or dark purples
brown eyes- pink shadow
green eyes- light purple or gold
blue eyes- gold or light green
Well if you dont know already, something good to know is to always put the lightest color on top (under your eyebrow) then a medium tone, then a darker tone.
Work with at least a couple colors and blend,blend blend!

Also invest in some good brushes because the sponge tip applicators are really not very sufficient for a preciese application. Try Sonia Kushack brushes from Target.
And finally BLENDDDD! Blending is soo important in all aspects of makeup.
youtube probably has a bunch of videos... try to keep it natural. for darker colors follow the crease line and don't go any higher. as an almost 12 year old keep it in the lighter pinks or shimmers unless you are trying to be funky every once in a while

just use like a white eyeshadow. and some black eyeliner only on your bottom eyelids and just use some mascara.. don't go all in it or it will not loook good for your age....

HIP sells a great 2 eyeshadows in a pod for around $6.00 at Walmart. Get the one that has a dark brown and a bronze in it. That's what I use. Also get a good shimmery white. Use the shimmery white under your eyebrows and use the bronze on your eyelids. In the crease of your eyelids, use the dark brown. Do it all very carefully or you will look like a cheap prostitute, and no one wants to look like a prostitute! It should come out really nice and smokey.Can anyone give me smoky eyeshadow tips?

and then in a balck (but not emo black) and blend it on the outside corner of you eye
and a swipe of mascara

eye you eyesahdow brush a little wet
and load it with brown and put it on your lid and blend out words
you need 3 colors of eyeshadow. black, gray, and white. you apply the black to your eyelid. then take the tip of the applicator and use that to apply the gray to the crease between the lid and brow bone. apply the white to brow bone, underneath eyebrow. this will give you the ';smokey'; look you want.
The stila talking palate in grey is really good ( i have it)
Um, it tells you how to do it, and has an instruction booklit. but, it literally talks to you to tell you how to apply the eyeshadow. also, for mascara i love fresh brand.
You need 3 shades for this. The lightest for the inside of your lid, the medium shade for the outside.
Use the darkest shade and just form a V line in the crease of your eye and your lash line.

Gold & Brown Eyeshadow, tips for making my eyes pop?
I have almond shaped almost black eyes, and I have noticed that my eyes tend to look very small in pictures. I bought a gold and brown eye shadow to make maybe a smokey look to make my eyes pop a little more. I also use liquid liner and mascara everyday. Any other tips on making my eyes pop in pictures? Apply the gold shadow over your entire eye for a pretty shimmery base. Take the brown and shade it on your outer corner of the eye, making a sideways V-shape, extending a bit past your outer corner to make it appear larger. Then dab a shimmery ivory shadow like Maybelline's Tranquil Sands to your inner corner to brighten the eye, and along your browbone to lift the eye.
Then take the liquid liner and line JUST your top lashline, winging it a tad out at the ends. Curl your lashes for about 10 seconds each and apply mascara.

yea i got one! just tell them that your doing a very unnotticable color and totally make them look gothic! i did that 2 my friend ounce and trust me she didnt get mad we just cracked up cuz she looked like she was from a hard rock band that always ends their concerts in riots! lol it was hi-lar-i-ouse! seriously do it! whoever u do it 2 will not c it comin! seriously try it! :D

Blend ..Blend ..Blend...thats the best advice I can give you. Don't create harsh lines that look too dramatic. Honestly, the way that I learned how to do makeup was watching you-tube! Type ';MAC makeup'; in the search bar and it will give you tons of live users who can show you a few tricks. Now take into consideration that some of these people aren't that great. i want an eyeshadow that doesnt shimmer like maybelline, covergirl and stays for long hours.

Make Up For Ever have alot of eyeshadow colors, most of them don't have shimmer or sparkle in them. This is professional grade as a makeup artist would use.

Has anyone ever used coastal scents products? Are they good quality..do they test on animals..how would you all review the company? If you have, what do you think of the 88 Shimmer Palette? Is it good? Rate it if you have trouble explaining (10 being best..). I've never really bought eyeshadow and I need a large palette with many colors. I read about coastal scents on the web and I thought I might check the company out. How good are the products (specifically the 88 shimmer palette). Also..are they only sold online, or in stores too? I think the Coastal Scents palettes are totally worth it. They are super cheap, highly pigmented, and have a wide variety. Coastal Scents has a lot of cheap but good products. I love their brushes, gel liners, and translucent setting powder. I would rate the 88 shimmer/matte palettes an 8 and the overall company a 7 1/2. They only sell online, but they do ship internationally. Go to Ebay, you can get the EXACT same palette for less money. They all get them from China. Personally, I am not a fan of these Chinese products. I have health concerns and frankly the quality is just not there.
I think it's a really good investment. There is so many options and different looks to choose from with such a large palette. It's a lot better than having to buy all of the colors seperately.

I have been considering buying both. They are high pigment, but will the shimmery or non-shimmery look better?
When deciding what will look better, think youtube eyeshadow tutorials by panacea81, but not the ones that go all the way up to her eyebrows with bright colors. I think that looks trashy, but anyway... ?
Also, don't say that I shouldn't get them because I will wear too much makeup. I don't wear hardly any, and anyways, what I wear is my business.

I vote non-shimmery, because that is more realistic for every day use. Then you can complement them with some shimmery eye shadows you can buy elsewhere, and you can only buy the colors you think you will use. First of all, whatever you decide to get, make sure you purchase it from ebay. Its cheaper, because you don't have to pay for shippping. Second, I would suggest getting the matte palette instead of the shimmer, since you normally do not wear a lot of makeup anyway. That way, you could use the colors anywhere you go whether it be work/school or out to a club. There are so many colors in this palette that you won't even have to buy any eyeshadow for awhile. I put four eyeshadows on to swatch, with primer, and forgot to take it off. I got a shower, washed my hands numerous times, and went out in the hot sun and after a day? It was still on the next day!
Buy the non shimmery. It looks much more natural and is easier to combine with other colors without being obvious.

I have abunch of revlon eye shadows. They're super shimmery and full of awesomeness. haha. They come with 4 colors in each. My mom worked at a drugstore so she got me tons of them. I have browns, blues, purples and pinks.. They're about 10 dollars each (with 4 colors in each) but they're worth it. I highly recommend them.
a light brown shimmery color with some dark brown in it too.
you can put it were its light brown on one side of the eye lid %26amp; dark brown on the other side.
or you can do light brown %26amp; pink.
point is light brown looks good on all skin color, %26amp; it goes good with any other color! :):)

But dark stuff sometimes looks like my brow shadow. So make sure it suits your skin tone well before you buy it.

Looking for a shimmering but not glitter purple eyeshadow in UK?
I need a deep purple (but not dark purple) eyeshadow that I really want to show up. I have Hard Candy purple, Urban Decay purple but they look almost black when they are on so not too dark.
Also, any photos or hints on how best to apply it so it's kinda funky - it's to go with a retro look...Looking for a shimmering but not glitter purple eyeshadow in UK?

I haven't used it, but I think it's matte. Their glimmers and glimpses have shimmer. If you want shimmer, you might want to try the glimpse in City Lights or the glimmer in Queen Phyllis. yes i have one! it works really well! and if the color doesnt show well for you, all you have to do is wet a small applicator brush with a little bit of water and smear the water all over your eyelid, and then apply the creme makeup. This will make it stay on your eye and have that ';just applied look';, without you having to reapply it. But trust me, im sure you wont need to do that, because creme shadows work very well. I tried alot of creme shadows and they all sucked, so i had to use the water technique, but this is by far the best eyeshadow i tried in a long time. so go for it! :D i hope i helped!

I prefer Too Faced's primer because it comes in a squeeze tube, rather than a tube with a wand like Urban Decay's version. I also have dry, sensitive skin and Urban Decay Primer Potion makes my lids drier. The packaging on Primer Potion is also VERY inconvenient because you only get half of the product you pay for. The only way to get allll of the product is to cut the tube open, and that's a hassle. To me, Shadow Insurance works on everyone but Primer Potion is great for peope with oily lids because it ';dries'; out the lids. They are both the same price at $17 except Too Faced ';Shadow Insurance'; contains .01 oz more.product.
Now for a base.. A base is different from a primer. A primer helps to hold all the eye make-up throught the day. A base is the color you sweep over the entire lid for even more ';holding power.'; It's also like a ';bare canvas'; to layer your eye shadow on top of it. I use MAC's paint pot in Indianwood. This is $16.50 at MAC stores or counters. I put this on after applying eye shadow primer and before applying eye shadow.
3. For shimmery eye shadow, you can pay anything from $1 to $100! It depends where you go. If you want to go to the drugstore, I highly recommend Maybelline eye shadow. I recently bought all 4 of their new quads from their new ';Stylish Smokes'; collection. They are AMAZING. Maybelline recently changed the formula for their eye shadows and they are so much better now. Their quads are around $5 depending on where you go and are available at Walmart, Target, drugstores, etc.
If you are looking for ';higher end'; shadows, I recommend Lorac and Nars as they are my favorite brand. Lorac palettes (usually includes 4 shadows %26amp; 1 blush) are usually $35-36 and their singles are $18. They have some singles on sale on their site for $4.99 and palettes for $17.50 right now so grab them while you can. I HIGHLY recommend their Snake Charmer palette (on sale.) It contains shimmery, neutral colors and a peachy blush that can be used for every day make-up. Most are shimmer as I own most of them. Nars palettes will be around $50 or more and their singles are around $22 and duos are $32 so you definitely save more when you buy a palette.
MAC is good too. If you want to buy MAC shadows, I recommend purchasing a palette and eyeshadow refills instead of the singles because you will have all your shadows in one place AND refills are cheaper. However, each refill is $11 so just to fill a 15 pan palette, it will cost you over $150.
I recommend buying a quad or a palette rather than a bunch of shadow singles because it'll save you lots of money. Singles are also a hassle. Palettes are just more convenient because all the shadows are in one place.

Question about the Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette?
I want to purchase an eyeshadow palette with highly pigmented and extremely shimmery shadows. I got inspired by the victoria secret fashion show 2008 make up pics below to be specific to buy a shimmery eyeshadow palette. Someone recommended the Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer palette and i was wondering if the colors are highly pigmented and shimmery? If not can you please suggest another shimmery palette. I do not want any matte colors. I don't mind buying off of ebay and i dont have a price range.

THE COLORS ON COASTAL SCENTS 88 SHIMMER PALETTE ARE AMAZING!
They are everything I hoped for when I bought it and more. All the colors are about the size of a dime, but they are so pigmented. I use a shade of brown every single day and I've hardly made a dent in it at all. Wonderful price, only like 19.95 if I'm correct. One of the best things I ever invested in. If you still need a little more persuading go on youtube and search for reviews on it. I'm in love with this palette though. It's fabulous. Question about MAC shimmer eyeshadow....?
I bought two shimmer eyeshadows(don't know the exact colors but ones a navy color and the other is green) from the MAC store today and am having a hard time getting them to show up good. I am a light brown skinned woman (mixed with Puertorican and Black) my foundation is NC43. What can I do to make them show up better? I am pretty much a rookie at applying makeup...Question about MAC shimmer eyeshadow....?
If you really want to get the color to show up you could put a white base color underneath. I've used NYX jumbo pencil in Milk, which is a matte white cream shadow and it works well for me.Question about MAC shimmer eyeshadow....?
You should put a base underneath it, if you don't have any you can just use a eyeliner pencil in black or white depending if you want it to look brighter or darker. You can use other colors too. the Milani eyeliner are really good and have some really pretty colors. just put the eyeliner or base all over you your eyelid and blend out the edges, then apply your eyeliner over it. some good bases are the rimmel eyeful pencil or the Nyx jumbo pencils. Make sure you use a primer underneath then so that they don't crease and it will make the colors last long and not fade. Some good primers are Mac paint pots, Too faced shadow insurance, and for drugstore loreal decrease. Just put a light layer on your eye before you put anything else on. hope this helps!!

Those palettes are made in china though and they have some harmful chemicals, but all makeup does really. I've heard it contains lead. I recommend Barry M Dazzle dust in Bronze.if you put the tiniest bit on your brush, then dab it onto your eyelids, it looks great. then, to make it slightly lighter with more shimmer, brush it gently with the blending brush. It looks and feels great with some lash lengthening mascara and Collection 2000 Eyeliner in Teal.In our Local Boots, It's 拢3.50 for one pot. (Bear in mind that if you only use a little, it will last for Ages!)

I was looking at the Coastal Scents 88 palettes and I was thinking about getting the matte one. Now the question I have is - can you make matte eye shadows shimmery? I just want to know if I have that option or not or if I buy that palette then I am stuck with all matte.

I have the 88 palette, the original one. At first i was thinking of getting the shimmer ones, but i just decided that id stick to the original one because i heard that the shimmer one is actually really shimmery %26amp; the color payoff is not that good because its really very shimmery. i LOVE urban decay. it is available at Sephora stores and online or even at urban outfitters. i like ';Grifter'; which is a more purple shade or ';cherry'; that is baby pink. its more costly than something like covergirl but it wears MUCH better.

if you want something cheaper i would recommend covergirl. they have a compact that has three shades. one purple, baby pink, and a dark mix of the two.

Shimmer eyeshadow is sparkly, and non-shimmer which is matte, doesn't sparkle. I think they are equally common/popular; personally I don't wear shimmer during the day because it's more of a nighttime look.Is shimmer or non-shimmer eyeshadow better?
shimmer shadows are basically the middle ground between sparkle/glitter eyeshadows and matte eyeshadows - their can either have small glitter particles that are very fine, or it can just give off a soft sheen/shimmer to the shadow when applied. Non-shimmer is basically matte shadow. Shimmer is more common in loose eyeshadows (so powder ones) and non-shimmer is most found in pressed shadows, although a lot of pressed shadows can be found with shimmer or some sheen to it.
I think both can be used in a great way, and both can look very beautiful - the key to using any shadows with shimmer is to not use something that is obnoxious in terms of glitter. The more glitter, the tackier you tend to look. Mattes will always look nice, and so if you prefer staying with something more natural, go with mattes or VERY subtle shimmer shadows. If you want to sparkle things up once in a while, use both, and just see what you prefer.

Non-shimmer has no shimmer and shimmer is like a subtle hint of glitter - but less noticeable. And there really isn't a ';most common'; option. Most people use both. :) Shimmer makes your eyes really shiny and pretty and can be bought in neutral or bold colors.
it all depends on the person. typically shimmer looks nicer on a night look since the shimmer is more noticeable and shiny. A lot of older people tend to not use shimmer either it makes them look more older and washed out.
it really depends on where you will be wearing it. i suggest shimmer during the day for schoo/work and opaque for going out/at night
Shimmer eyeshadow is sparkly, and non-shimmer which is matte, doesn't sparkle. I think they are equally common/popular; personally I don't wear shimmer during the day because it's more of a nighttime look.Is shimmer or non-shimmer eyeshadow better?
shimmer shadows are basically the middle ground between sparkle/glitter eyeshadows and matte eyeshadows - their can either have small glitter particles that are very fine, or it can just give off a soft sheen/shimmer to the shadow when applied. Non-shimmer is basically matte shadow. Shimmer is more common in loose eyeshadows (so powder ones) and non-shimmer is most found in pressed shadows, although a lot of pressed shadows can be found with shimmer or some sheen to it.
I think both can be used in a great way, and both can look very beautiful - the key to using any shadows with shimmer is to not use something that is obnoxious in terms of glitter. The more glitter, the tackier you tend to look. Mattes will always look nice, and so if you prefer staying with something more natural, go with mattes or VERY subtle shimmer shadows. If you want to sparkle things up once in a while, use both, and just see what you prefer.

Non-shimmer has no shimmer and shimmer is like a subtle hint of glitter - but less noticeable. And there really isn't a ';most common'; option. Most people use both. :) Shimmer makes your eyes really shiny and pretty and can be bought in neutral or bold colors.
it all depends on the person. typically shimmer looks nicer on a night look since the shimmer is more noticeable and shiny. A lot of older people tend to not use shimmer either it makes them look more older and washed out.
it really depends on where you will be wearing it. i suggest shimmer during the day for schoo/work and opaque for going out/at night

You could try using some loose glittery powder, just put it on over your other eyeshadow. Be very careful not to get it all over your face though, lol :-P Or if that's too messy for you, get a really sheer but sparkly eyeshadow to apply over your regular eyeshadow. I can't think of any products to recommend... But if you just go to a store I'm sure you could find something.

Walgreens has an eye shadow which is a clear glitter you apply it with a brush it has no color. So you would just have to buy that one product apply your regular make-up and then brush the clear glitter eyeshadow over the entire eye and you will have your glitter. Hope this helps

I picked up the foiled eye kit from Ulta yesterday and am having a hard time with it. I typically use my eyeshadow wet (I use Clinique and Mary Kay normally) and this set said it could be used wet. I am finding that it doesn't go on smoothly wet though. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to get a better wet look with it - I have tried different brushes and different amounts of water also...Anyone using Bare Minerals eyeshadow?

Even though many makeups say they can be put on wet, it isn't the best way. and if you get water in the container, you are running the risk of contaminents, and then you can get infections rashes, blemishes and you will have to through the makeup away.

Stila by far. Bare Minerals is easy but the color tones are so generic that they look decent but not amazing. Go to Sephora and have the Stila person do a mini makeover. They will suggest colors that look good - I have similar tones and wear a lot of silver with purple over it that the Stila guy at Sephora suggested and I love it!
I like Stila very much, other brand to try from Sephora are Nars, Smashbox, Shiseido, Laura Mercier(only some stores) and believe or not Clinique. They stay on pretty well and have a nice colors. For your green eyes colors would be nice are shades of purple, including purpulish pinks. Also Peach, green and shades of brown and gold. I would stay away from blues. Hope it helps.

i love bare minerals shadows, you can layer, or blend them, or wear with glimmers, the possibilities are endless. i adore their liner shadows, they last really long. just go to sephora, or ulta, and try everything out, to see, how it looks on you, before spending your money.Stila Eyeshadow or Bare Minerals? Stila by far. Bare Minerals is easy but the color tones are so generic that they look decent but not amazing. Go to Sephora and have the Stila person do a mini makeover. They will suggest colors that look good - I have similar tones and wear a lot of silver with purple over it that the Stila guy at Sephora suggested and I love it!
I like Stila very much, other brand to try from Sephora are Nars, Smashbox, Shiseido, Laura Mercier(only some stores) and believe or not Clinique. They stay on pretty well and have a nice colors. For your green eyes colors would be nice are shades of purple, including purpulish pinks. Also Peach, green and shades of brown and gold. I would stay away from blues. Hope it helps.
if you like bright eyeshadows, Urban Decay has really bright ones, i have the purple one, it's very bold.
i like the stila eyeshadows, haven't tried bare minerals.

it works soooo well, just get a clear nail varnish - i used rimmed hardener base coat as it dries very fast - and dip the brush gently into the mineral eyeshadow and paint straight onto the nail u dont need to mix it first

Don't get me wrong, I love the mineral powder for the face - I use it every day. I really want to stop using pressed colors because minerals are so much better. Mineral Eyeshadow? Whats the difference?
Does it benefit your eyes? Because I have this strange red spot on either side of my outer eyes (it looks like a small area of irrited skin). The weird thing is I only put Almay eyeshadow on it. So I was thinking of using a mineral eyeshadow. What do you think about mineral eyeshadow?

Don't use physicians formula or neutrogena, as they both have parabens in the ingredients which are very bad for you. Go with a pure mineral formula, usually they come in individual plastic tubs in the form of loose powder. The only ingredients should be micas and oxides. And purple complements both green and brown eyes beautifully. But for a more subdued look, browns are nice. If you want to be dramatic, a nice peacock blue will stand out.

To make the mineral eyeshadow stick to your lid and give the best color i would put a primer on your lid first then apply the shadow. Most places that sell make up have a eyelid primer. You could also apply foundation on your lid or concealer i'm sure it would work just as well. I would apply the mineral eyeshadow by patting it on the lid with a makeup brush.

put on a base of white eye shadow underneith then put on the bare minerals or if that doesnt work make some white eyesadow powdery then dump it into the bare minerals and mix it up.
Use a small eyeshadow brush and blow some of the powder off before using it. Otherwise, blend a bit of powdered white eyeshadow with it.
Only use a little at a time and spread it out more.
